Mission
The Morgan Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to providing preschool age children who are undergoing treatment for cancer the opportunity to interact and
socialize, in a safe environment that stimulates cognitive and social development. Children on chemotherapy treatment have a suppressed immune system, and could otherwise risk infection
and serious illness by attending typical age appropriate preschool programs.
Purpose
The Morgan Center will provide preschool age children with cancer the opportunity to learn and socialize in a safe environment. Children undergoing chemotherapy treatment
have a suppressed immune system. They cannot socialize with other children due to the risk of infections, illnesses and diseases. Even contracting a simple cold could become life
threatening to immunosuppressed children. They can however interact with children in a similar situation, whose parents understand the inherent risks and the importance of a
germ free environment. The Morgan Center will provide the opportunity to learn and socialize, giving three and four year old cancer patients an early childhood learning
experience that prepares them for kindergarten. The parents will be invited to stay in a separate area to participate in group discussions, for emotional support, and will have
access to professional help. The Morgan Center will ultimately help these children and their families to cope with the stress of battling cancer. It will provide a pre-kindergarten
learning foundation and a sense of normalcy, as well as a distraction from treatment and pain.
